My daughter has had an over-all good experience with the program. We are grateful for what the program has provided, food shelter, and a system to progress through high school and join a career.
There are great things and not so great things like all programs.
They have an active student government. Some communication within the program is not the best. The SAI Tech High school classes online through I think edgenuity, really need to be updated from the 1990s-early 2000s style videos and sometimes outdated grading where it will mark sometimes right answers wrong, and the student needs to go to the teacher facilitator to correct things in the student's scoring record. It is hard as a parent to get information on student progress.

no vacuums is a weird policy.
The upholstery in the waiting area of the lobby, has never been cleaned since first installed --- how long ago. Needs steam upholstery cleaning to get the black oils out. Things like that show some signs of neglect and cause me concern about what else is neglected. There are some great teachers and some not so great ones.

My daughter is in the program 4 months and has not yet started the vocational training. It would be nice if part of the vocational training could be concurrent with the High school completion computer based training. The mind-numbing hours of straight computer work can slow students progress and lower motivation at times. It would be better in my opinion to at least offer an introductory course of the selected field of vocational study to help the student decide if that career area selected is right for them. They do have on site medical facilities and dental. They do have a weight lifting space / gym.
My daughter said the food is good some days and "ok" other days but is thankful for the 3 meals offered a day.
Referring to another person's post:
There are rats outside all over the city and the students of the student government are trying to brainstorm ways to help motivate their peers to clean up after themselves better outside in the eating area, so rats are not attracted.
Student personal responsibility has an impact on the success and cleanliness of the environment.

There are good people there and other students that are coming from other states are enjoying there time there and there are some rules you have to follow that is by the students or staff members that works there. But there is a Uniform that you have to use every time (no outside street cloths) you can use your own Jackets or hoodies. Trust your Counselors that can help you for the things that you need help on. All so you have your school ID with you all times and make sure that the key cards work for each Building with it you can get you bus pass if you are not a non-resident in the school but if you are resident you want to get away from the school ask for one.

Very corrupt and do not recommend unless you can entertain all staff 24/7 to achieve favoritism or if you are experienced in handling extreme condescendence and unfairness. I had to advocate for myself to the point of breaking down more times I could count just to complete my trade and progress with my training. I was constantly being treated poorly by teachers and staff members even though I did all of my work quickly and took the program seriously. They did not like that I had questions which made them actually do their jobs.

My car was damaged by one of this company's "students" who was outside screaming and throwing rocks at cars in a nearby parking lot. My window of my car was shattered and I reported it with the night supervisor, Clyde Jordan. He told me that his director said the company would be covering the cost of replacing my window. I paid out of my own pocket to get it replaced as soon as possible, since it's not legal to drive around with a shattered window, he stopped responding to my messages completely. I've texted and called and left voicemails over the past few months and have heard nothing back from Mr. Jordan. You need to keep your "students" from vandalizing cars and learn how to keep your word on a promise to reimburse someone for vandalism at the hands of the people who are supposed to be there learning how to get right and act right. It's a shame that this company has let me down.

I am a second generation former Job Corps student and now my son attends there third generation. I just want to say if you apply yourself, Job Corps will be a great benefit to you. I was in the TCU program and obtained an office assistance certificate while I attended around 2003/2004. I am now an office manager at a medical clinic. All the typing tests (Mavis Beacon rocks!!!) , etiquette classes, and training has helped me to succeed. I want to say thank you to Job Corps for giving opportunity for young people in the community. Shot out to Mrs. Hodges and staff!!!!!!
p.s. to future students, Rules are in place for a reason at Job Corps. The Job you are desiring for your future also has rules. Remember that and you'll succeed. Stay focused!!! You can do it.

When I first applied to Job Corps for IT, I was told that I would be sent to San Diego for their program. I was switched to joining the LA Job Corps center because according to my recruiter at this center, "We have a really good IT program here." I started my first day in April to find out that the trade isn't even ready here, and it keeps getting pushed back. I was told it would be ready in August, so I was working hard to get through OA. It got pushed back to September, but that didn't matter to me because I still had a few weeks left in OA. Now I have about 3 weeks left of Office Administration, but it just got pushed back again.

I feel like my time here isn't being taken seriously, with no off center programs being offered, since the center cancelled them to replace them with on center training, but where is the on center training? Why lie to me to get me to join this center, take away any off center opportunities for me, and then hold me back. I honestly feel like they are taking advantage of whatever funding they receive by keeping me here as long as possible. I have tried to have conversations with people, but each person tells me it's out of their hands and to talk to the next person.

There are people who have started in February and before then, completed the prerequisite trade OA, and have been doing "work-based learning" which doesn't involve anything IT related and is more in tune with Office Administration. I am currently in the work-based learning program and I am just sitting in the copy room with maybe one person coming in, not needing help to run the machines. I am expected to just sit there and wait for 2 hours of my day. I don't see how this program will help me if my trade doesn't start any time soon.
