New location, same vibe.

I love Stone Bear Studios! I’ve taken about 6 classes over the course of a year+ because the classes and people are just that great. I learn new techniques, tricks and skills with each class no matter who the instructor is. The instructors are talented, knowledgeable and encouraging.

Stone Bear has very generous and consistent Open Studio hours. Which is convenient and nurtures a fun community of ceramists.

The new location has nice natural light that adds artistic feel of the studio.

It feels really good to work in a space where your time and creativity is respected.

Where Clay Meets Comedy!

If you think "Free Throw Friday" involves hurling basketballs made of clay, you’re not alone. I had visions of clayballs soaring through the air like some avant-garde sports event. Spoiler alert: "throwing" clay means slapping it onto a spinning wheel and hoping it doesn't turn into a wobbly disaster.

I signed up for this pottery adventure with my ride-or-die squad—my day one homies, my partners-in-crime, my claymates. This is the group of friends that like to live their lives based on “why not’s” - not “why”.

The class was a whirlwind of laughs, spinning wheels, and clay catastrophes. At one point, I was so focused on shaping my pot, I didn’t notice it had turned into a modern art piece. A very abstract modern art piece.

Our instructor, bless their patient soul, guided us through the basics with the grace of a potter who’s seen it all. They probably have a bingo card for rookie mistakes: "Lopsided vase? Check. Clay hands in hair? Check. Someone actually trying to free throw a pot? Check."

In the end, we each had a masterpiece, or at least something that vaguely resembled pottery. But the real art was in the laughter, the camaraderie, and the shared experience of trying something new. If you've got friends who are down for spontaneous clay-flinging fun, hold onto them. They’re the kind of people who turn a lump of clay into a golden memory.

So, if you’re considering a pottery class, grab your besties, your sense of humor, and prepare to get messy and come join my friends at Stone Bear Studios!!

Joining this studio has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. After a long hiatus from pottery, I signed up for an 6-week intermediate class with Stone Bear in January and absolutely loved it. I’ve been coming back regularly ever since!

The courses are a GREAT value considering the instruction, quality of materials (great variety of glazes!!), and amount of access to the studio. If you have previous experience with ceramics and throwing on the wheel I’d definitely recommend trying the level 2 class.

Matt’s (and the entire SBS team) passion for ceramics, the studio and everyone that walks in is incredible. Whether you come for an hour, a class, or workshop they so committed to making sure you have the best experience possible. They’re very responsive and receptive to questions so if you need something just ask!

Oh man oh man what a special place! I took wheel 1 with Jillian and meadows. I was filled with anxiety about being a newbie and they created a supportive and fun environment where I felt allowed to try new things, make mistakes and learn. Their expertise radiates from them and they take an individual approach to make sure every students strengths are celebrated and areas for growth are given extra support. I’ve hesitated to sign up for pottery class for years because of the price and immediately signed up for another round. Worth every penny and then some.

I had an absolutely amazing time. I took my mom on one of the clay dates for Mother’s Day and we had such an awesome time! Our instructor Lily was super funny and very patient. We loved her dry humor! The class went by super fast and was just overall such a great time. My mom said it was the best Mother’s Day gift she’s ever received. Thank you Lily!
