I have taken multiple classes at this studio and I absolutely love it! Both Joshua (the owner) and Griffin are excellent teachers. They have created a great community and they have inspired me to start doing it at home as well. Highly recommend coming here!

My friends and I decided to take a pottery wheel class at Out of Step Clay and it was the most rewarding and fun experience. We learned a new skill, made beautiful pieces we are proud of, and felt so supported throughout the classes. The class sizes are small, well priced, and structured so you learn something new each time. There was time throughout to practice, play, and get messy. We loved our time and I look forward to taking more classes with Joshua at Out of Step in the future.

I really enjoy Out of Step Clay!!! Josh, the owner/instructor, is friendly, helpful, informative, fun, and works hard to foster a welcoming community. Griffen is also a great instructor! I always want to spend more time there, look forward to the time I get to spend in class and open studio, and am excited to get creative with handbuilding!! I could go on and on but I highly encourage you to see for yourself. I’ve taken both wheel and handbuilding classes but my favorite has been the monsters and robots class! I also had a private lesson with my nieces and nephews and that was a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

Highly recommend! TL;DR - solid structured instruction, good progress, great vibes.

This is our second go at finding a pottery studio in Denver. We were so pleased with the progression we were able to get out of having structured instruction in class. The best part is the open studio time - I’d highly recommend to make it in a couple hours a week on top of the actual class time - it’ll be the difference between small wins a huge progress.

Wheel work is hard!! Because we’ve had a few months of previous wheel work, we weren’t sure what to expect, but we went from making a few things that look okay to getting the basics down and being able to troubleshoot on harder problems. Love that firing and glazing is painted glaze and included in the cost of class.

Also, in case anyone wants to post bad vibe reviews here - I think it’s a HUGE bonus that the owners want to give back to good causes with their work. Who doesn’t want to know that their contributions to this community gives to something more than themselves.

Come and learn! It’s a hard process but it’s rewarding if you put in the time and work.

Love this place! I’ve taken four classes both wheel and handbuilding and loved it. (Plus my son has taken the kids one!) Joshua is an amazing teacher and I’ve learned so much. I really appreciate how after a round or two with them they let you get fairly creative and free with your work answering questions along the way. They’re also amazing at building community within the classes and at events.

Josh is an excellent teacher who creates a really easygoing community atmosphere in classes and in open studio time. I have taken two courses at Out of Step and plan on taking more. I look forward to expanding my skills and have had nothing but great interactions at the studio! Thank you to Josh and Griffin for creating such a great creative space.

Signing up for a class at Out of Step is probably the best thing I've done in the last year. I started out taking the wheel class. While I enjoyed the community atmosphere and Josh's teaching style, I quickly learned that the wheel was ~ not my jam ~

But I admired the work I saw coming out of his handbuilding class, so decided to try that next. I'm now in my (5th? 6th?) set of classes and don't see myself stopping any time soon.

Josh is just the best — creative, funny, supportive, encouraging. Whether you want to make Instagram-worthy bowls or weird creatures for your garden (hi, that's me), he will not only fully support your vision, but help you bring it to life.

The sense of community was an unexpected surprise, but I guess that's what happens when you put a bunch of people looking for a creative outlet in a welcoming, inviting space! If you're new to the area and looking for a way to plant some roots and meet people, this is the place.
